The American Express (Amex) Personal Platinum Card is the premium travel card that published by American Express. It is known for its generous benefits, which correspondingly come with a high annual fee. Additionally, there are places where Amex is not accepted, making it less appealing to some people. However, if you know how to leverage its perks effectively, this card can offer tremendous value.

Latest Welcome Offer

Currently, you can earn 80,000 points by spending $8,000 within the first six months of opening the card.

It’s hard to say whether Hilton points are devaluing quickly or if Amex’s annual fee is increasing rapidly—from $450 to $550, and now to $695. The Canadian Amex has adopted many positive aspects from the U.S. Amex, such as the ability to refer others for a bonus. One notable feature is the immediate issuance of card numbers for online applications. However, while the U.S. Amex has not adopted the best features, its annual fee has certainly risen to match Canada’s.

Amex Card Application Base Knowledge

  • Welcome Offer

Amex stipulates that you can only receive a welcome bonus once per card in your lifetime. This refers to the same product; if you apply for a different product, you can receive another welcome offer. For instance, if you already have the Amex Personal Gold and received a welcome offer, you can still earn another offer for the Amex Personal Platinum.

However, if you’ve already received the Platinum card’s welcome bonus, you won’t be able to receive the Gold card’s welcome bonus. To maximize benefits, it is recommended to apply for the Gold card first, followed by the Platinum card.
